d. Dr. AV Ratna Prasad, FIE, Principal of VRSEC by Dr. P Kodanda Rama Rao, FIE, Chairman, IEI, AP State Center.

The Inaugural Function came to an end by tea break.

The Panel Discussion was started with the following :

Er. Karthikeyan A K, Deputy. Manager, EESL, Vijayawada explained the efforts made by the EESL in educating the formers and to use BLDC pump sets in their forms, and CMS street lighting systems and Ujjala scheme of the government as part of DSM. He future continued about the EESL Agriculture DSM carried by the to decrease the burden on DISCOMs. He explained the problems faced by the DISCOMs with subsidized i.e., free power to Agriculture sector. He gave some statistical data.

Agricultural Sector consumes ~ 18% of total electricity supplied. This burdens around 40,000 Cr INR per annum – equivalent to one fourth of India’s fiscal deficit. Electrical Distribution Company (DISCOM) are facing huge burden of revenue loss. Electricity supply is free or applicable tariff is very low.

Net Result à Inefficient Pump-sets (low efficiency Pump sets 20-30%) Inefficient use of electricity lead to water depletion Agriculture consumes 85% of all available freshwater resources, no regulation. Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has initiated Ag DSM programme in India to reduce the burden of shortage of electricity supply and financial burden on DISCOMs.

Er. T V V Siva Rama Kumar, Dy. Executive Engineer, APGENCO, Chief Guest discussed regarding the Energy audit and its Importance, DSM is the trust area where research is encouraged. DSM will be the key to have low power consumption at peak load demand and it will also decrease the power losses on the Generation Systems. He beliefed the importance of Energy Audit for any expansion and future analysis of power consumption. He highlighted regarding the energy audit. General tests for Auditing in a Thermal Power Plant.

General calculations for Auditing from periodical data of the Thermal Power Plant. Detailed Energy audit Approach. Implementation of Audit findings/Recommendations for improvements.

After a small break for lunch, the following Panel Speakers were discussed on the above subject.

Er. A V K Jagannadha Sarma started the DSM Measures
To encourage consumers to use energy more efficiently by modifying their electricity consumption patterns in terms of the time and extent of electricity demand. DSM measures help the Consumers to use electricity in a more efficient manner. DSM measures can supplement Supply side strategies to meet the Supply Demand Gap. In the Long-Run DSM would avoid or defer costly capacity additions by slowing the demand growth. DSM would be a cheaper option when compared to a adding Capacity addition. Then he discussed the DSM load patterns and briefed the Demand Response based Tariff and Tariff Incentive that are implemented in US and UK.
